Plan one was, well changed, and the descision was made to get on the hook in the lower end of the Tussey. Fresh clam was the bait and sharks and skates were the game for a while. Around 6:15 all Daisey MayHem broke loose and the bite was on. Marty, (barner, RoyalTrout1) hooked up and with his 4/0 penn on a roller guieded rod, had his hands full. This 70+ pound drum gave him a good time for about 20 minutes.

Only a few minutes later and Marty was hooked up again, only this time he handed me the rod and let me bring it in for him. Another 70+drum.

When we left the dock with 4/0 gear on roller guided rods. The other guys thought it was a little overkill, but we were looking for the bigguns. Using the right gear make all the difference in the world. It still took 20 minutes to bring these brutes to the boat. Using light gear seems like fun, but it caused problems for the others with you who are also there to fish. If you can't handle the fish and it tangles all the other lines that isn't good. So all other anglers have to pull their lines until you are done. If the bite is short it could be over for the rest of the crew.

Clams for bait, the fresher the better. 18 foot of water with the incoming tide. Seas where 3-4 when we set the hook but did lay down to steady 2's for the rest of the trip. East winds kept the lines running off to the port side slightly, but very fishable. A steady bite from the smooth dogs and skates for the first hour or two, then the drum bite turned on. After puttin 3 drum in the box, the doggies started to show again and we decided to call it a night. There is nothing like Drumming on the full moon of May. Although the moom didn't show it's face, the time and place was right. More fishing to come and reports to follow.
CaptEddieB

Captain EddieB's Log

Captain EddieB's Log
Fishing was great in florida both in January and in February. I fished in the Anclote area just north of Clearwater with a good friend. JohnnyD is a great fisherman and put us on the meat each time out. When it is too cold to be fishing here in New Jersey, the waters of Florida are just right. We were fishing on the grass flats using light tackle and jigging with artifical baits. The fish caught were Speckled Trout up to 22 inches and quite an advisary on light tackle. We released most, and only kept a few in the 17 inch range for a fresh seafood dinner. The February trip was the best because the water temp had risen a little and the gator trout were in for the catching. We had several hookups with two and three on at the same time. Boy, you gotta love it. I'll try to post some pics. tight lines until the next post.

Fishing Reports of the Past and Presant

I will try to get this blog up to date, keep a tight line.
